The Word - part 4

Uncategorized Apr 15, 2022

Today we will examine three more symbols of the Word of God. This is our fourth installment of this particular study so please feel free to look back at the blogs from the past three weeks to be up-to-date with this discussion!

THE WORD IS LIKE MILK.

In 1 Peter 2: 2 (Amplified) we read, “Like newborn babies, crave the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

Milk is the first thing fed to a newborn baby. If breastfed, the baby receives his/her nourishment from its mother. In this process, the child is helped so it can get a drink and be fed comfortably by bottle or breast. For many months this little one needs assistance getting the milk. Then one day, the baby has grown to a place where it desires to hold its own bottle. Soon after that the child is not full unless he/she gets a little cereal as well. The baby is growing and so are his/her needs for nourishment.

Baby Christians love the milk of the Word, and when they are first saved, they cannot get enough. They find books, online teachings, Bible studies, and literature to study and read. Being young in the Lord, they take more frequent feedings, as the Word may be too rich and heavy for them. Baby Christians learn quickly what they can digest and how much they can eat at a time.

Just as any child grows, so does a Christian, and eventually milk is not enough. We start to cry out for meat or more solid food. By this time, our spiritual man can digest the food and manage a more diverse diet.

Whether we drink milk or eat meat in the Word, we must not lose respect for it. The Word is our sustenance and our access to growth. Hebrews 5: 12-13 (NKJV) tells us to study the Word. “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.”

Mothers of Nations, our growth in God cannot be sustained with milk alone. We must dwell in the meat of the Word to have our character changed. Staying only in the milk will stunt our development.

THE WORD IS LIKE HONEY.

In Psalm 119: 103 (NKJV) the Psalmist described the "taste" of the Word. He said, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!”  God’s Words are sweet to the taste and good for our soul.

Proverbs 24: 13-14 (NKJV) tells us, “My son, eat honey because it is good. And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste; so shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul; if you have found it, there is a prospect, and your hope will not be cut off.”

The honey of God’s Word in our life gives us a future and a hope. His Word is something we can continue to feed on even as we walk away from the table.

In Judges 14: 8-9 Samson kept eating from the honeycomb as he walked away. He delighted in what he had found. “After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. He took some of it in his hands and went along, eating. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them, and they also ate. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the carcass of the lion.”

Jeremiah felt the same way in Jeremiah 15: 6 (NKJV). “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”  Jeremiah was thrilled with what he read. It was like sweet honey to his spirit!

THE WORD IS LIKE GOLD.

Before we conclude today, let’s look at one more symbol of God’s Word:  The Word Is Like Gold.

There are different names for gold in the Bible. Many of the names refer to the attributes of gold. Gold in ancient times was highly esteemed and was a medium of exchange, measured by weight, and it was valuable to own. In India today many of the very wealthy people own gold necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. It is a symbol of wealth and worn to show position in their society.

The Word, compared to gold, tells us just how valuable it is. The Word is an inexhaustible goldmine where we can dig for treasures forever. Precious stones and metals are found in the deepest mines. Men have to go in and dig until they find the treasures.

God’s Word is similar, as we must go digging to find revelation and principles of worth and value to our lives. Hidden in the Word are apples of gold. “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” (Proverbs 25: 11 NKJV)

I have experienced many situations where words have been spoken into my life that have changed my course of direction and destiny. Taken from Scriptures, these words have been like the discovery of a goldmine. Time and time again I have found my treasure and staked my claim!

I pray that all of you Mothers of Nations take some time now to reflect on these three symbols of God’s Word as they relate to your own personal lives. Blessings to all of you!
