The Goodness of God -- part 3

Uncategorized Aug 25, 2023

Today we will conclude our discussion about the goodness of God. I pray these three weeks of study have been both a blessing and even a “wake up” call to recognizing that our God is truly so so good!

God fills our souls with good things.

Let’s take a moment first of all to read through the following Scripture verses found in Psalm 107: 1-9 (NKJV)

1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

3 And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way. They found no city to dwell in.

5 Hungry and thirsty, their souls fainted in them.

6 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.

7 And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city for a dwelling place.

8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

9 For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Mothers of Nations, can you say AMEN to verse nine?  Truly He fills our hungry souls with goodness time and time again.

In these verses we see that while the Israelites were in the wilderness they were weary and tired, moaning and groaning, complaining and criticizing. Yet God was still good to them.

Can we be honest?  How many times do we act just like the Israelites?  Complain?  Exhibit impatience?  Express doubt?  Yet the Lord is faithful to us as well and He showers His blessings on our lives and brings us to places of peace and rest, satisfying our souls and filling us with His goodness.

We all know that our minds, our thoughts can cause us trouble, don’t we? Let’s remember that the Word of God admonishes us to think on those things that are pure, lovely, reasonable, and full of mercy. When we do this, we cement deep in our souls that God is good.

God brings us a good word.

The Scriptures are full of God’s “good words” for us. Let’s look at just a few of them to remind ourselves again of His goodness towards us.

Proverbs 12: 25 (NKJV) – “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.”

Psalm 91: 16 (NLT) – “I will reward them with a long life and give them My salvation.”

Proverbs 25: 11 (NLT) – “Timely advice is lovely, like golden apples in a silver basket.”

Now think about your own life. How many times has the Lord shown His goodness to you by bringing you a word of encouragement, deliverance, healing, comfort, etc. just at the moment you needed it most? If you are like me that number is immeasurable!

God’s goodness touches our hearts.

Throughout our entire lives God has been faithful to be there for us. I certainly have experienced this in my own relationship with the Lord. By His goodness He has saved us, healed us, restored us, empowered us, and strengthened us. I think the truth of His goodness is the reason why I was so impacted by the words of that worship song that I shared with you in the first entry of this teaching.

All my life He has been faithful. All my life He has been so so good. Without a doubt, His goodness has touched my heart greatly.  Mothers of Nations, I am sure this is true for you as well!

As we close, maybe you are old enough to remember the old Maxwell coffee slogan that said that Maxwell coffee was “good to the last drop.”

Well friends, our God is just that. GOOD to the very last drop.  Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!
