The Goodness of God -- part 1

Uncategorized Aug 11, 2023

Recently during a Sunday morning time of worship the congregation where we attend was singing the song that goes like this:  “All my life You have been faithful. All my life You have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”

Mothers of Nations, are you familiar with this worship song?  It has been a song that I have always loved, but on this recent particular Sunday morning, something really struck my heart.  As we moved from the chorus to the verses, each line seemed to “hit home” with me in personal ways. For example:

“I love Your voice…”  -- I thought of the blessing it was for me to daily minister on the radio with a program that covers a significant part of Africa.

“How You led me through the fire…” – Oh my, those times of false accusations were certainly fiery, yet the Lord led me through safely.

“I know You as a Father…”  -- Many experiences of feeling sale and secure in Him flooded my mind as I sang.

“I know You as a Friend…” – I recognized that the confidence He gives me to be able to talk with Him whenever I desire is truly a blessing and invaluable.

Standing there in worship that day I started to cry as I thought about the goodness of the Lord and how faithful He has been to me all my life. Yes, God is so good and it is important that we remember and always value His goodness as it is revealed in our lives.

Exodus 34:6-7a (NKJV) says,  “And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,  keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin …’”

This worship experience of mine led me to look at several things we know about God and His great goodness. I would like to share what I found with you this week and next.

God makes good things.

We know this from Genesis 1: 31 where we read, “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Yes, indeed, it was very good. You and I are made by God and yes, we are good things! All that God has made is good, the very best, nothing evil.

God is good to all.

He is 100% good to all and is no respecter of persons as we read in the Word. In Psalm 145: 9 (NLT) we read, “The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation.”

Mothers of Nations, God’s love, goodness, and mercy is for all of us who love Him!

Next week we will continue looking at other examples of the goodness of God as revealed in the Scriptures.  I pray that as you go through these next several days your awareness is heightened to recognize examples of the goodness of God in your own life. Please take time to thank Him.
