The Doubt Robber -- part 1

Uncategorized Sep 01, 2023

Doubt happens to us throughout our lives in one way or another. We can blame Adam and Eve for the beginning of doubt as they listened to the wrong voice and followed the wrong word of advice.

Let’s read Genesis 3: 1-7 (NLT) to set a foundation for our discussion today.

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

“Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

So we find Adam and Eve here living in an atmosphere of love and faith. The glory of God was everywhere. Yet, the devil was also busy at work plotting and scheming. He was looking for a loophole and he managed to get Eve’s eyes off of the Lord by planting questions into her mind.

We can see that the enemy was attempting to manipulate her senses. He led her into questioning herself, God’s Word, her needs, and her wants.

The devil was truly messing with her mindset! We see here in these verses that her thoughts began to contradict God’s Word. He disguised himself as helpful, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. In so doing Eve’s thoughts became confused, disrespectful toward God, selfish, and desirous of more than what God said she could do and have.

Eventually Eve dismissed the Word of the Lords for something she thought would make her happier and wiser. And that is how it happened. Eve doubted God and she doubted God’s Word.

Mothers of Nations, now that we have looked at this example of Eve and the way she was ensnared by the enemy, do you recognize in your own life where you were trapped into accepting doubt? I am sure all of us have had these experiences and it is good to uncover the devil’s schemes and disarm his ploys, isn’t it?

Next week we will dig deeper into the thief of DOUBT. Have a blessed and faith-filled week!
