Are You Salty? part 3

Uncategorized Apr 05, 2024

Today we will conclude our discussion of the declaration of Jesus in Matthew 5: 13 where He says, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”

Considering all the properties of salt we discussed last week, I feel Jesus is saying here in Matthew 5: 13 that we are precious, valuable people to Him and that He needs you and me to be the salt in the earth for the benefit of His kingdom.

Mothers of Nations, we are valuable to our world. We are precious gifts and useful to our churches, our communities, and to the Lord Himself. We add flavorful seasoning to those around us as we make ourselves available to be effective. It is essential for us to continue to bring life to others and preserve godliness in the earth. Healing potential lies within each of us, and we can create thirst in others to draw them to the Living Water of Jesus Christ.

Wow! That is quite a tall order, isn’t it?! We are called to be salty!

Let’s go just a bit farther and think about what it further means to be “salty.” First, when we are salty, we can create conflict. Our godly concerns, unselfish behavior, and righteous life choices is seen by others and sometimes this causes conflict. This “saltiness” makes people think and it draws lines in the sand regarding values and integrity.

At other times when we are salty we can bring enhancement to situations. We become a blessing to others or we preserve and purify atmospheres or situations.

Sometimes when we are salty we feel like we are on a mission or have been commissioned to accomplish something. Maybe we sense the Lord wants to use us to help preserve a marriage or to be an antiseptic (healing balm) for someone. We can be sent to be seasoning to a dull world or a standard setter in our community or workplace.

To remain “salty” we must remember that we cannot lose our savor. That means to remain influential, we must live with no compromise, no contaminants, and no mixture of worldly things added to our testimony.

When we are salty we:

  • Remain consecrated to the things of the Lord.
  • Are quick to confess sin.
  • Keep an ongoing attitude of repentance.
  • Are fully dedicated to God.

Finally, when we embrace a lifestyle of being “salty,” we find that we enjoy and actually love making others thirsty. We sense God’s assignment to be the salt of the earth by introducing others to the Lord. We then realize that truly “we have been saved to be sent.”

Mothers of Nations, just a little bit of salt goes a long way! Salty people transform homes, change communities, delay decay, postpone death, and certainly make life more flavorful.

Be Salty!
